Our Philosophy

We are given an opportunity every day to do something for ourselves or for someone else, and then as this day goes by, so does the opportunity. We should not take for granted our opportunity to be a part of this softball organization, because it will be over before we know it. The most important thing you should get from being a part of an organization and your team is personal satisfaction from knowing we are coaches, student athletes and parents who did things the right way and you did them to the very best of your ability. To become the best coach, player, student, and person you can be… this is success!

Coach Kirk Laux

Coach Kirk Laux originated the California Comets ASA organization in 2001 and is now the co-head coach for the California Alpha Comets. Kirk is going on his 4th decade as a coach, spending 11 years as an assistant coach at Sacramento City College (1985 and 1987 State Champions) and American River College. Kirk served as a head coach at Valley High School (1980-1982; 1982 Coach of the Year and Optimist team Head Coach), Mesa Verde High School (1997-1999; 1999 D3 Ca. North State HS Champions), and Rocklin High School (2005-2007), where he resigned to focus on his business, Hit’s, Harmony, & Hustle Softball Training facility.

Kirk competed at the men’s fast pitch A and Open Major divisions from 1970-1994. He was a member of the 1991 ASA Men’s Major National Champion and 1994 Olympic Festival Gold Medal winning team. He has earned Silver Medals in 1983 and 1991 at the Olympic Sports Festivals in St. Paul, MN.            Coach                Mica Romero

Coach Mica Romero is the co-head coach for the California Alpha Comets. Mica started playing ASA at the age of 8, where she played on multiple Sacramento teams, including the Capital City Comets from the age of 12-18. She is helping create this program after graduation from Willamette University in 2012 with a degree in Exercise Science and Psychology.

A member of the Bearcats softball team, Mica played and started all 146  games at short stop during her career. In her 4 years with the program, Mica obtained a .349 batting average and currently holds 13 top five career hitting records. Her stellar defense and hitting awarded her a 4-year 1st Team All-Conference (2009-2012) and an All-West region selection (2011) for the Bearcats.

Mica is also a Woodland Christian High School alum where she was a 4-year All-League and Team MVP. In her final season as a Cardinal, she hit .624 and was chosen as the “North’s MVP” in the postseason Optimist game after going 2-2 with a homerun.

From her educational, professional, and athletic accomplishments, Mica brings a lot of experience to the Comets and loves to help others reach their goals of being the best student-athlete they can possibly be and to achieve their dreams of playing collegiate softball.
